Why it is built this way
Verification is what makes the reach reasonable.
Anyone can be found on an open network.
What is hard to establish there is whether a connection is real — whether two people genuinely share a school, a chapter, or a profession, and whether either is current.
Verified affiliations are what let Scout say why someone is relevant rather than just that they match.
That claim is also what makes the person on the other end willing to reply.
